From 1710 until 1720 it was published as the Scots Courant and as the Edinburgh Evening Courant until 1873, when the Evening News saw the light of day. The author Daniel Defoe and the naval historian James Hannay were Editors, in the early 18th century and between 1860 and1864, respectively.
