Morocco La Rache (Ville en Barbarie) original print by Pieter van der Aa published in Leyden in his 'La galerie agreable du monde (...) des Indes Orientales (Vol I)' 1725. Only 100 copies of the voluminous 66 part book were produced. This is a second edition, partially re-engraved and altered plate. The first edition by Olfert Dapper (1639 - 1689) appeared in Amsterdam in 1668 in 'Naukeurige Beschrijvingen der Afrikaensche gewesten'. Good margins overll size 430mm x 330mm. Prominent usual central fold. Generally very good condition. Attractive print of sailing ships along city cost line. Attractive title cartouche. NOTE: Illustrations incomplete

Published in the Dutch edition of Anson's Voyage around the World,<</em>>!! Amsterdam 1748. Drawn by J Van Schley. Quaint representation of indigenous villagers smoking elongated pipes, praying to idol with hut. British flag in background. NOTE: Sierra Leone bordered by Guinea, was an important British colony in West Africa and the centre of the slave trade until 1792. In March of that year the Sierra Leone Company founded Freetown to accommodate former slaves freed from the British Empire. 420mm x 280mm (including margins). Natural folds (to accommodate into book) otherwise strong print with general wide margins in excellent condition. ng of the mountainous regions of Sierra Leon as well as engravings of the houses of the people of Sierra Leon. Originally drawn by J.V.Schley. Two layered print on single sheet. 395mm x 279mm. Fine condition.
